A forester walking through the oak forest

Working oak since 1913.

Every Accordion Table is made by hand at Tvin, in Virovitica, Croatia.

Since 1913

A century in oak.

What you make carries the weight of everyone who touched it before you.

  1. 1913

    A sawmill by the forest.

French investors build a sawmill in Virovitica to cut the oak that grows all around the town. Tvin starts here.

  2. 1920

    The first furniture factory.

A large furniture factory rises next to the mill. The oak now leaves Virovitica as furniture, not only as boards.

  3. 1953

    The first table.

Tvin makes its first industrially produced table, the Kancel.

  4. 1966

    Modern design.

The designer Bernardo Bernardi starts working with Tvin. His armchairs and modular systems furnish landmark offices in Zagreb.

  5. 1990s

    Kept alive by its makers.

Through the hard years of the nineties, the workers become Tvin's shareholders and keep the factory going.

  6. 2015

    A new generation.

The Vampovac family takes over Tvin. Hrvoje Vampovac leads it today.

  7. Today

    The Accordion Table.

Eight years of work on one mechanism: an oak table that opens in one motion, made by hand in the town where the mill began.

The founders

Two founders, one table.

Accordion Table began as an attempt to solve an everyday mismatch: between how people live most of the time, and how their furniture responds when life changes.

Hrvoje Vampovac

“If something carries your name, it had better be worth the years it takes to build it right.”

CEO of the Tvin factory. He didn't inherit a business, he inherited a standard, and spent eight years developing a mechanism that looked impossible, until it wasn't.

02Co-founder, brand

Slobodan Todorović

“This belongs in every home.”

The first time Slobodan saw the table, he stopped. Seven seconds of silence. He didn't see a piece of furniture, he saw permission to gather without limits. He turned to Hrvoje. No pitch, no analysis, just the truth.

How it's made

Made by hand, from forest to table.

More than 40 hours of handwork go into every table, made in Virovitica.

  1. The bark of a Slavonian oak, ivy climbing it

    01

    The oak

Slavonian oak, slow-grown in the forests around Virovitica.

  2. Oak logs on the chain line into the Tvin sawmill

    02

    The mill

The logs are sawn into boards at Tvin's own mill.

  3. Oak boards stacked high to dry, a narrow aisle between them

    03

    The wait

The boards are stacked and left to dry before anyone works them.

  4. A maker sets oak boards into a panel clamp

    04

    The panels

Boards are chosen by eye, then glued and clamped into solid panels.

  5. Two Tvin makers fitting the lattice with screwdrivers, a finished table in front

    05

    The lattice

The lattice is fitted to the mechanism by hand, one slat at a time.

Why it lasts.

Solid wood throughout, not veneer, not composite.

  1. Solid oak Slavonian oak, known for its strength, stability and long life.
  2. One motion One person opens it in under 10 seconds. No leaves to lift or store.
  3. Tested 10,000+ extension cycles. Ten years on the structure, life on the mechanism.
  4. Renewed A light sand and re-oil brings the surface back, year after year. It is restored, not replaced.
