The engineering is the real story

I'm an architect and I specify furniture for clients constantly, so I don't give five stars easily. The engineering on this table is the real story. No leaves to store, no hardware to lose, no staged lengths that almost fit. It moves continuously from 180 to 240 cm and sits rock solid at any length in between. You can feel the century of woodworking behind it. Finish is a natural oil which I prefer over lacquer. It will age, and it should.

Does the table extend only to one fixed size?

No. The table extends continuously from 180 to 240 cm — 
you can stop at any point in between.

Is the table stable when extended?

Yes. The structure holds equally well at any length — 
solid and level whether you’re hosting two or ten.

Do I need to remove items before extending?

No. The table extends smoothly with everything in place. That said, if something’s already wobbling on the edge — maybe grab that first. 

The table won’t cause it, but physics will.

Is it child-friendly?

Yes — it’s made for real family life. As with anything that moves, 
a quick glance before you pull is all it takes.

How is it maintained?

Solid oak needs less than you’d think. A slightly damp cloth along the grain for daily care, coasters and trivets to protect the surface, and a wipe-down after spills. If you’d like to re-oil once a year with Rubio Monocoat, it will keep it looking its best — though it’s not required. The surface can always be refreshed when you feel like it. Unlike lacquered surfaces that simply wear out, solid oak can be renewed. That’s the difference between furniture you replace and furniture you keep.

Can crumbs or food get stuck between the slats?

Closed: No — the slats are flush.
Extended: Some crumbs can collect in the seams during a meal. Cleanup is quick: wipe the surface, then run a soft brush or dry cloth between the slats. Every table ships with our linen runner, made to lay across the extended surface during hosting. It elevates the table and catches crumbs before they reach the slats. With the linen runner on top during hosting, this is rarely an issue at all.

What happens if I spill wine, soup, or water on the table?

Closed (everyday use): The slats sit flush — it's a normal solid oak dining table. The water- and stain-resistant finish handles spills just wipe them up.

Extended (hosting mode): Small gaps appear between the slats. A little liquid can pass through the seams, but:
Rubio Monocoat finish is water- and stain-resistant, the metal rails underneath are sealed against moisture, spills won't damage the mechanism Every table ships with our linen runner, made to lay across the extended surface during hosting. It elevates the table and catches spills before they reach the slats.

Quick wipe, you're done.

Are plates, glasses, and bottles stable on the extended surface?

Yes. The slats sit on the same horizontal plane, so the surface is continuous and level. Plates, glasses, candles, and bottles rest flat and stable.

How is this different from a Transformer Table or other expandable tables?

Most expandable tables use MDF, particle board, or veneer to keep costs low.
